Celebrate Houston! - Celebrating Houston diversity and building a positive future
Please join us as we Celebrate Houston! and work to build a positive future in Houston's historic East End on November 1. You'll find exciting live music by Houston world music legends The Presidents, Karina Nistal Band, Grammy-nominated Sister Sister y los Misters, and Houston Press Best Traditional Music Award Winners Los Pistoleros de Tejas. There will be traditional dance and music by Danza Azteca Teokalli. The East End Urban Market will host a dia de los muertos fashion show and altars. Kids Write to Know will present the Kids Celebrate Houston! kids arts zone and performances. Artists and non-profit organizations will spread out across the plaza, surrounded by distinctive and historic structures. There will be lowriders, custom bikes and electric cars. The Artery Media Project will present an on-going display of Houston's diverse arts and music. And, there will be much, much more. The celebration takes place at the Tlaquepaque Market plaza, Telephone and Lockwood, just two miles east of downtown and 1/2 mile north of University of Houston. Best of all, it's free.

Celebrate Houston! will mark the founding of the Houston Museum of Culture - the most visionary and beneficial project in modern Houston. The museum will present informative and entertaining exhibits about the diverse lifeways of Houston people and their international origins.

Celebrate Houston! will feature displays of local cultural interests and live music by diverse Houston artists on two stages, as well as workshops about Houston traditional music and instruments. Artists, unique vendors and community organizations will add to the wide range of interests for participants.

Festival-goers will learn about plans for the Houston Museum of Culture and exciting projects like the Digital Story Resource Center, Houston Story and the Artery Media Project. Celebrate Houston! will take place at Telephone Road and Lockwood on the Tlaquepaque Market plaza, just outside the East End Urban Market, with more activities taking place at Houston Institute for Culture, Bohemeo's and Kanomwan Thai Restaurant. Artists will present displays in the market, along with hand-made crafts, dia de los muertos altars, fresh local produce, and a beer and wine garden.
